Common Mistakes

· Scope – please select a topic that can be covered in 4-5 pages; many were far too broad

· Page length – does not include title and references; additionally, margins, font, and spacing must meet requirements

· Thesis – thesis should be clear and concise and found early in the essay; a central thesis is critical to building a cohesive essay

· Sources – must have 5 primary sources (do not include Friis as one of your 5 sources)

· Quotations – avoid long quotations or too many; instead, paraphrase but still cite your source
